Vision Correction Surgery Edison

Vision Correction LASIKLASIK vision correction surgery is not simply a procedure. It is an investment in a lifetime of clearer, sharper eyesight and an opportunity to say goodbye to contact lenses and glasses permanently. According to the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s Eye Surgery Education Council, LASIK was the treatment of choice for more than 700,000 individuals in 2009.

Common vision issues treated successfully with LASIK include:

  • Myopia (nearsightedness)
  • Hyperopia (farsightedness)
  • Astigmatism (out-of-focus vision)
  • Presbyopia (age-related farsightedness)

At Patel Eye Associates, our Edison, New Jersey eye surgeons  in treat these and other vision conditions with the latest technology and most innovative techniques.

Types of Vision Correction Surgery

There are a variety of surgical options to correct refractive errors in your vision. At your initial consultation, Edison ophthalmologists, Dr. Hitesh K. Patel and Dr. Himanshu S. Shah will evaluate the condition of your eyes and recommend the appropriate procedure for your unique needs.

LASIK uses an excimer laser to permanently modify the shape of your cornea. First, Dr. Patel and Dr. Shah will cut a flap in the cornea, leaving a hinge on one end. Next, the flap is folded back, revealing the stroma, or middle section, of the cornea. A computer-controlled excimer laser corrects the shape of your cornea so that light can focus properly on your retina. Finally, the flap is replaced and allowed to heal.

Intralase LASIK relies on the excimer laser combined with the femtosecond laser which precisely creates a thinner flap. This is desired, because a thinner flap leaves more corneal tissue intact, ensuring greater corneal stability and reducing the risk of complications. This ‘bladeless’ LASIK procedure may be more appropriate for individuals with thin corneas who do not qualify for traditional LASIK. If you have had previous corneal surgery, such as radial keratotomy, you may also be a candidate for Intralase LASIK.

Custom LASIK surgery, also known as Wavefront LASIK or Wavefront-guided LASIK, creates a 3D map of your vision irregularities. This map will be used by the surgeon to guide the laser. The Wavefront measurement system allows for even greater precision and individualized vision correction than can be expected with traditional LASIK.

At Patel Eye Associates, we offer the Allegretto Wavelight laser, the fastest and most precise laser available for use in refractive surgery procedures.
